World of Difference (Charities)

World of Difference Ghana is a programme which gives people the chance to take a paid placement with a charity of their choice and make a difference. This year, 20 people will be selected to participate in the programme.

For those charities that do not currently have the financial resources or infrastructure to employ someone full time, the World of Difference programme will make a difference. The skills and experience of the right World of Difference applicant will be offer greater value to a charity than a donation of the same value.

No. World of Difference does not match skilled people to vacancies within a charity. It’s up to the individual to approach a particular charity, discuss their proposal, gain support and agree a project with their charity. This process must be completed before the individual’s application is submitted. Those applicants who say they would simply like to work for a particular charity without following this process are unlikely to be successful.

The programme will offer 50 people the opportunity to take a paid placement with a charity for a specified period of time. The Vodafone Ghana Foundation will provide the charity with some money towards the allowance for each person. Successful applicants will become an employee of the charity and be subject to their employment terms and conditions for the period.

We’re looking for people who can make a difference to the charity they have chosen. They’ll need to show passion, drive and commitment and that they have the right skills, experience and knowledge for their role. We’re confident that charities know the type of person they would like to have working with them and are experienced in choosing the right person to make a difference.

No - this would be the charity’s decision. But candidates are encouraged to continue to be involved in their World of Difference charities, after the placement period.

People are usually:

  • looking for a more fulfilling work experience and have the skills knowledge and passion that is of interest to a particular charity.
  • passionate that they can offer far greater skills and experience but have not been able to due to time constraints.
  • determined to make a difference in the time they spend with the charity

No. The charity must be registered in Ghana in order to qualify for the World of Difference programme.

No. However it may be beneficial for a charity to promote the programme internally. For example, a charity may have a volunteer that would be perfect for a role which has previously lacked funding.

We’ve found that asking applicants to email their CVs, along with a covering letter explaining their skills and what they can contribute, is the most efficient way of dealing with enquiries. From then on, charities can make contact with the person and talk through available opportunities or projects.

We know that some charities need to advertise new roles both internally and externally as part of their HR process. We have a four week application window which we believe will give you enough time to follow your HR procedures. The application closing date will not be extended beyond the closing date.
