Newmont Mining Corporation is primarily a gold mining giant which boasts of significant
assets and operations in the United States, Australia, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana,
Canada, New Zealand and Mexico

The company has over 35,000 employees and contractors worldwide out of which Ghana contributes approximately 3000 to its workforce. In Ghana, Newmont operates the Ahafo and Akyem projects which comprise about 20 percent of the company’s core assets worldwide.

They serve as a catalyst for national development - bringing information technology, communications, education, technology transfer, human resource development, supply chain,
electricity and health to the country. Due to its demanding work schedule, Newmont required a robust, stable, secure and reliable connectivity of its operations in Ghana to its country head office in Accra, as well as, to its global head office in Denver, for the use of databases and systems and also for real-time transfer of data. There was also the need for fixed voice for its offices.

After using multiple suppliers during the development of the mines, Newmont finally accepted
Vodafone’s proposal as they sought an equally global and world class communications company that could support their total communications requirements.

Vodafone today provides a wide area network connectivity and ISDN PRI to all Newmont mine sites in Ghana, as well as dedicated internet services out of its Accra office.
