Vodafone Right to Dream

Right to Dream & Vodafone: Giving talented kids the right to dream, on & off the football pitch.

For the next three years Vodafone Ghana will sponsor the Right to Dream Academy, giving the sports charity a welcome boost in many areas. The partnership will enable the academy to continue to provide quality education and professional football opportunities to underprivileged Ghanaian children.

The Right to Dream Academy, a not-for-profit organisation, was established over ten years ago to offer disadvantaged children the opportunity to develop their sports skills and talents while striving for academic excellence.

Right to Dream now exists as a 24-acre, state-of-the-art sports academy in Akrade, Ghana, where it has two football pitches, accommodation for the students and academic facilities. The academy also has a dedicated network of teachers and other staff to support the children as they progress through the programme. Under the project, these children are offered five-year scholarships at age 11 and given the rare opportunity to rise to sports stardom and academic excellence.

Many of these students graduate from the academy with scholarships to colleges in the US and UK. Others, like King Osei Gyan, who made his debut for the Black Stars at just 19 years of age, have already been able to pursue their football careers at a professional level.

Vodafone’s involvement in the project signals a new era for Right to Dream, a charity delivering not only world class coaching but also a specialised programme of personal development, education and leadership skills to some of the brightest but underprivileged young football prospects in Ghana.

As part of the collaboration, Vodafone will also be sponsoring the search for the stars of the future through Right to Dream’s nationwide recruitment programme, which comprises 12 weekend gala events, designed to ensure that as many children as possible get the opportunity to try and secure a coveted place at the academy. With Vodafone’s help and support, Right to Dream will continue to identify and nurture some of the brightest young sporting talents in Africa, serving as a reminder that every child has the right to dream of a better future.
