Dr. Audrey Gadzekpo

Dr. Audrey Gadzekpo is a Senior Lecturer and Ag. Director of the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana. She has more than 16 years experience of university teaching and research in the areas of media, gender, development, politics and governance, and more than 25 years practical experience as a journalist, working variously as a reporter, editor, contributor, columnist, talk show host, socio-political commentator, and magazine publisher/editor. In 2005 she was Visiting Scholar at the Program of African Studies, Northwestern University, U.S.A., where she taught a course on Gender, Communication and Women’s Rights in Africa.

She has published variously in the area of gender, politics, governance and media in Africa. Her publications include: “When the Watchman Slips: Media Accountability and Democratic Reforms in Ghana;” “Selected Writings of a Pioneer West African Feminist: Mabel Dove” and “What is Fit to Print: Language of the Press in Ghana.”

She is chairperson of the board of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the Transparency International Chapter in Ghana; the Public Agenda newspaper (a development oriented newspaper) and Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), a think-tank.
She is also on the editorial board of Feminist Media Studies and Equid Novi:African Journalism Studies and African Media Review. At the University of Ghana, she serves on a number of boards and committees, including the Faculty Board, Academic Board and Faculty Planning Committee.

Dr. Gadzekpo regularly serves as a domestic election observer in Ghana, and has been an international election observer in Mozambique (for the Commonwealth) and Benin (for Ecowas)
